Help for the Haunted: A Decade of Vera Van Slyke Ghostly Mysteries (1899-1909) chronicles thirteen cases conducted by ghost hunter Vera Van Slyke and her assistant, Lucille Parsell. “The Minister’s Unveiling” is the first of the chronicles. It’s set during 1899 in a wintry Massachusetts village.
This is the first case that Vera shared with the woman who went by the name Lucille Parsell. That woman, also called Ludmila Prášilová, happens to be my great-grandaunt, from whom I inherited these chronicles.
After a uncomfortable introduction in Boston, Lucille joins Vera on a ghost hunt in a Catholic church where the spirit of a Puritan minister haunts the confessional. What’s the spectral Protestant clergyman doing there? Guilty secrets are revealed — but not all of them — in “The Minister’s Unveiling.”
