Help for the Haunted: A Decade of Vera Van Slyke Ghostly Mysteries (1899-1909) chronicles thirteen cases conducted by ghost hunter Vera Van Slyke and her assistant, Lucille Parsell. “Dark and Dirty Corners” is the fourth of the chronicles. It’s set during 1901 in the prairies and farmlands outside of Chicago.
In this adventure, the great ghost hunter is promoting her new book, Spirits Shouldn’t Sneeze: A Decade of Defrauding Mediums, when she learns of nearby house that’s reported to be haunted!
Now, while Vera doesn’t believe spirits can be summoned from the Great Beyond, she very much believes that those spirits find ways to return to the physical realm. And her belief in ghosts moves her to explore the haunted house — a curious mansion built with rounded corners. What role those weird corners play in the mystery, she’s not sure. But her investigation of the ghosts or ghosts lurking in Stickney House proves to be one of her most unsettling!
